Crucial album in their repertoire since they repositioned themselves as a groovy lo-fi alt rock band, rap and rhymes still being part of it, bot not only. However the success of the album Paul's Boutique was so immense, that lots of people were dying to buy the new album, that way rocketing it straight into the top ten of the album charts.

Sometimes things just work out.They lost a big part of their original fans but started to gain fans amongst a wider public.
