Listening to this second album of The Philadelphia Story, you start to realize how many big hits actually came from this city back in those days. A lot of these songs you can still hear playing, sometimes as originals but very often as covers. Like "Me & Mrs Jones" (Billy Paul) or "If you don't know me by now" (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes). These songs have been performed by so many bands you can't even count them no more. But tune in to any soul station and "Love Train" (The O'Jays) sure will pass by.
The idea was to quickly react to the scene and the trends and of course to make money that way, releasing US compilations in Europe. Despite a lot of people in Europe were into alternative styles, the label did help to promote urban electronic dance music.
The Philadelphia story is one of the most notable compilations: a 14 vinyl box set filled with full length tracks, soul mostly, but when the music changes into the 80's soul-funk and soul-disco starts to mix in.
Streetsounds also released jazz-funk, house and high-energy compilations. They went of the market in 1988 but the label was revived by Khan some years later, mostly reissuing back-catalogue material. Starting 2009 they now release NU-electro compilations.
