Youssou N'Dour - 7 Seconds: The Best of Youssou N'Dour

Yet another great vocalist from Africa has his roots in the Griot tradition (oral historians, his mother was one and of course did teach him how to sing). N'Dour joined the star Band de Dakar soon to become the leader of this band, renaming it Super Létoile de Dakar.

It did not take long before he attracted the attention of big western artist such as Peter gabriel and Paul Simon. Partly because of this inter cultural fusion N'Dour became a pioneer of Mbalax: a mixture of various Western European Music styles and African traditions; Senegalese dance music.

N'dour didn't stick to that alone and combines various styles both African and Western, becoming much more an international artist than an African.

On this compilation you will find many well known tracks like "Birima", "Dunya" the world hit duet with Neneh Cherry "7 Seconds" and my choice, the beautiful "No More":
