This is actually a promo CD from the MOJO magazine, June 2014 issue. Okay it is not even June yet and I downloaded it a month ago, but who cares. My son built a music randomizer for me that selects random not yet added albums for me to play and add. So in case anyone wonders if I suffer from mood swings that sweep me from one corner of the musical universe to the other, that is just my randomizer :-)
Interesting CD though, promoting the new single by the Black Keys and also containing a never released live track. Rest of the CD is filled with interesting material from, well .... friends. At least that is what is says. I never believe that stuff. Okay I figure the Keys are somehow involved choosing the tracks probably, but of course the label has a 99% say in what will be on it. After all it is promotional material, so you will like tracks and search for it, tube it, boost the names in the search engines and on Spotify and other music stream services and spend money buying more tracks on Itunes and such. But still nice.
Dr. John with 'Revolution' and Hannib El Khatib with 'Head in the Dirt' are good tracks placed right after the new Black Keys single 'Fever'. Surprisingly a lot of stuff is bluesy and RL Burnside 'Skinny Woman' is pure blues. blues-rock even. Other interesting tracks are the tracks from Jessica Lea mayfield, The Sheepdogs and Junior Kimbrough (Mississippi Blues)
