Billie Joe + Norah - Foreverly

Usually I will scroll my mouse wheel and pick an album from the folder it stops, but this time I made an exception. Phil Everly from the Everly Brothers just passed away and I recalled downing this tribute album not too long ago. Of course the Everly Brothers where famous for their exceptional close harmony singing and they were an example for many many artists, even the Beatles.

Just a year into their career the Everly Brothers recorded an album 'Songs Our Daddy Thought Us' (1958) and this album of Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones is totally inspired by that one album (which for the Everly Brothers is anomaly, just them backing by their own guitars, singing the sweet lullabies from their youth).

It is hard to chose a song they are all so sweet, but I chose Barbara Allan. Not because it is a great story telling song (which it is) but because the way the Everly Brothers sang their songs, may sound so easy, but for sure it is not. Because the Everly Brothers were able to switch first and second voice within a song multiple times and/or switch from second voice to third, sing a part in second and third voice and switch right back to first and second voice just as easy, which gave them their unique sound. And in this song you can hear Norah switch from second to third voice all the time.

If you did not get my message yet: this is a great album!
