Sandy Lopicic Okestar - Border Confusion

Sandy Lopicic grew up in Esslingen am Neckar, but his parents are from Sarajevo which explains his interest in music from the Balkan. Next to his own compositions he uses songs from the Balkan, Roma songs, folk songs from south slavia and even circus music. Using jazz influences he makes them into new compositions. Next to that he studied clavier, was busy with ballet in his early years and is now a theater maker.

I tag this as 'gypsy' but thats is just because I only tag two levels deep and his work blends in well with gypsy music, balkan music and even klezmer. But the tracks are pretty diverse and if you like this kind of music, I can really recommend this album. The influences are recognizable, so he stays close to the original songs he found. If you know a little about these music styles it is simple to recognize the Roma background in one song or slavian folk in another.
