Hip Hop Essentials - Vol. 6

It is funny to read the discussions about these series on the internet, not only from music journalists but also old and young rap and hip hop fans. On volume six we find the song "Wild Thing" from Tone-Loc (produced by the Dust Brothers who also picked up artists like Beastie Boys and Beck). From a hip hop point of view "Wild Thing" was totally garbage and just a try to copy the success of Run-D.M.C. building a song around a hard-rock guitar riff. Nevertheless the song eventually sold over 2 million copies and from that point of view, it should just be on one of the discs. After all this series represents a period of time in hip hop and is not a definitive collection. So that is, why it is my clip choice here.

Of course there are many really good tracks on the album. Like "Children's Story" by Slick Rick or "My Melody" by Eric B. & Rakim. Tracklisting
