Celia Cruz the grand old lady of Salsa (amongst other genres) was back in 1974 what you would call the older generation. Johnny Pacheco back then was one of the youngsters. Now there all always many artists that would see the older generation as has been. They respect, admit that they are influenced by them, learned from them, but move on. 

Johnny Pacheco saw that in a different way. That shows some courage at the least to try and work with someone with a big status as Celia Cruz. But it does say something about Celia Cruz as well. The fact that she was able to renew her self and meet the youngster half way after such a tremendous career is a surprise alone, the fact that she was willing to do so was even a bigger surprise.

That said it was the right choice, bringing us some great records, this one (the first) being the best.
