Howlin' Wolf - London Sessions (The Blues Collection no.7)

[the_blues_collection_howlin_wolf_london_sessions_front.jpg]In one word the Howlin' Wolf was big. Big in Blues and big as in B.I.G. Six foot three and close to 300 pounds. And that you can hear in his music. When the howlin' wolf gets the spirit he will rock the house down. True, he wasn't the best player around, but because of that the band's style became rough and direct, aggressive even at times. True, he wasn't the best songwriter or even good with lyrics, but then again, later in his career he teamed up with the great Willie Dixon (Chess Records) and like only performed songs written by the master.

But always, a night with the wolf would blow you off your feet. He never even was a top selling artist (although when Dixon joined in, he did sell way more than before) but nevertheless everyone agrees Howlin' Wolf is a rock, founded as solid as can be in American Blues history.
