Anita Baker - Sweet Love: The Very Best of Anita Baker

Well this is a woman with a remarkable life story. Growing up, listening to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, wanting to become a singer and finally make it when able to join Chapter 8, one of the leading acts in Detroit at the time. But when Chapter 8 finally had the chance to release one album on the Ariola label, the band got dumped immediately when the Arista label took over Ariola. 

Back to the gutter for Anita working lousy and low paid jobs to stay alive until she found a better job working as a secretary for a law firm. Happy with that she was not interested when a guy of the name of Otis Smith, a former executive of Chapter 8 contacted her to join his new label, but after hesitating for a while music and singing started to tickle enough and she went for it.

She released one album that did not do even that much, but enough to build a fan base and draw the attention of major label Elektra. The rest is history. She became one of the major R&B stars in the late eighties, won numerous awards and many of her albums reached the platinum status.
