Hunter Hayes - Hunter Hayes

A self titled album. Must be a debut album, right? Well in a way it is. It is his first major label album, but this teenager has been around for some time. This guy comes from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Yes, from cajun country. He was singing cajun and zydeco tunes at the ages of three, learned to play cajun tunes on an accordion in just a couple of days, was stage performing for paid audiences at the age of 5 and cut his first record at the age of 9. Some people are just born with it, don't they?

He became a minor celebrity in Louisiana, television appearances and stuff, but also performed 'Jambalaya' on stage with Hank Williams in front of 200.000 people.  Amazing.

He left for Memphis to try and see if he could make the scene in country music and got himself a major deal. Four songs were released from this album and it became platinum. A second album just has been released (May 2014).

My choice: Storm Warning, the first track on the album. He wrote the song, sings the song and plays all instruments on this track. It was also the first single. It is not my favorite song though. I do understand this guy was launched and the single releases need to be something special (they think).
They could save themselves some trouble. This guy is at his best when he sings and plays straight forward country songs (like Faith to Fall Back On and Somebody's Heartbreak). He does not need to be 'cool'. He was right in the first place. He is going to be a big country star.
