This is not the album one should start out with to get familiar with the work of Peter Gabriel. It is an album for fans and (like one of the critics pointed out) who else is there after a decade to go buy the album and spin it enough times to fully understand the album. Because even die hard Peter Gabriel adepts will need to play this album over and over again to open it up. This is one of those albums that only reveals it's secrets after you take the time to sit down and listen. And again and again. Like a good movie, the better book, art.
It is a brilliant album, deep dark, sad. You need to search for the way out, sparks of light and hope, thin lines, delicate.
Good headphones may be of help.
