Windham Hill: The Fine Art of Music

Windham Hill is a record label, originally founded by William Ackerman to release his own work and that of other guitarists. It was a well respected label in the 80's and 90's, was sold to BMG and is currently a sub label of Sony. They specialize in new age and folk music, originally only instrumental. This album contains tracks from Philip Aaberg, Montreux, Michael Hedges and a couple of others. Some tracks are really jazzy, sometimes it is to the gypsy side and the next one is just sweet guitar music. These are great albums to blend in with either your jazz collection, your folk play list or even throw in a country playlist or a borderline collection.

Next to that it is just fun to listen to tracks like this and try to figure out similarity (like I do). For instance the last 3 tracks to give you an example. Track 10 'Two Days Old' from Michael Hedges could very well be an intro to a Kate Bush song or just be an instrumental track on a Pink Floyd album. 'High Plains', track 11 from Philip Aaberg would do just fine if Tori Amos plays is and makes it into a sweet ballad. And the last track of the album, 'To Be' from Montreux... I just hear an intro tune to a police/detective drama series from the seventies!

Okay I am weird, I know :D
