But wait, this album is recorded in Memphis, how did that happen? Well, she already recorded an album with Hush (the band's name). And she happened to see Bernard Allison play at a club in Germany. He asked her to join on stage after to jam and was so impressed he asked her on tour. Which she could not because she had to go back to Amsterdam to study.
But Allison went on with it and asked for a copy of the record with the band and send it on to Ruf Records in Germany. Lucky girl!
But of course very talented.
Now there are a lot of blues purists out there, that won't even think of playing this album. Okay, it's a little blues, a fair part blues-rock, soul-blues and swamp rock even. But that is the same discussion as playing Mozart to the notes or bring your own spirit into it. Personally I have nothing against purists (except for those who state that if it is not from the USA it can't be blues) but to me that would be blues as a study object. It is a good thing to preserve culture and music is part of that, but music is alive, not static, so there should be both and you should love them both.
That said, just listen:
